We are seeking a Technical Lead to oversee solution architecture, technical design, and hands-on development at Whakaata Māori. This role will see you guiding technical standards, mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and contributing to innovative solutions that support the revitalisation of te reo Māori through world-class digital platforms.
This is a full-time, permanent position based at our head office in East Tāmaki.

- Design scalable and maintainable technical solutions aligned with business needs.
- Actively contribute to software development and oversee smooth deployment processes.
- Conduct code reviews, set technical standards, and ensure best practices are followed.
- Mentor and guide developers, supporting growth in technical excellence.
- Lead innovation by adopting new tools, technologies, and processes.
- Collaborate with analysts, designers, and stakeholders to deliver projects on time and to a high standard.
- Support Whakaata Māori’s kaupapa, values, and commitment to te reo Māori.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | What you’ll bring
- A tertiary qualification in software development, computer science, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Senior Developer, Technical Lead, or similar, with strong architecture and project delivery skills.
- Expertise across front-end (React, Typescript etc) and back-end programming (Go, Nodejs etc) languages (Preferred).
- Previous Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), microservices, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and a commitment to developing te reo capability.
