We are looking for a dynamic and experienced News Platform Manager to oversee our Digital News Platform team. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of timely, accurate, and engaging news content across all digital platforms, underpinned by a strong understanding of analytics, social media algorithms, and digital optimisation strategies.
Grounded in Whakaata Māori values and driven by an audience-centric approach, you will lead a team dedicated to producing & curating news that is informative, ethical, and told through a distinctly Māori lens. You will be accountable for ensuring high performing news content is rolled out while managing legal and reputational risks, ensuring our stories reach diverse audiences effectively and responsibly. This is a leadership position for someone passionate about news and committed to upholding the principles of kaupapa Māori in a modern newsroom setting.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
- Curate the news content to deliver across web, app, and social platforms.
- Drive a digital-first, audience-centric news strategy aligned with Whakaata Māori values.
- Ensure content is accurate, ethical, culturally respectful, and aligned with te reo me ngā tikanga Māori.
- Oversee performance tracking, input into content planning, and manage team workflows to meet strategic goals.
- Manage and mentor the Digital Curation team.
- Leverage data and analytics to guide team decisions and improve audience engagement.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments consistent delivery.
- Maintain digital compliance.
- Champion te reo Māori integration and lead by example in cultural competency.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | What you’ll bring
- At least 5 years’ experience working with content on digital platforms
- A passion for news & storytelling for digital and social media audiences.
- A desire to understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and fluent or committed to te reo Māori.
- An understanding of SEO and how to grow our audience and capitalise on their need using digital platforms
- Skilled in team leadership, planning, problem-solving, and communication.
- Confident using data and analytics to shape content strategy.
- Resilient, flexible, and able to make decision under pressure.
- Legally entitled to work in Aotearoa
