Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced People & Capability Manager to lead our People & Capability (P&C) function. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering our P&C strategy, systems, and processes to attract, develop, engage, and retain exceptional talent. You will play a key part in supporting Whakaata Māori in its transformational journey by driving cultural and operational change, building leadership capability, and fostering a values-based, high-performing workplace culture.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at our head office in East Tāmaki.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver of the Whakaata Māori People & Capability strategy and initiatives.
  • Provide strategic HR leadership and advice to senior leaders and managers.
  • Champion our organisational values and build a culture of engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee employment relations, remuneration, workforce planning, and organisational development.
  • Develop and implement learning and leadership development programmes to grow internal capability.
  • Ensure compliance with all employment legislation and best practice HR standards.
  • Lead a small, high-performing P&C team and foster professional growth and te reo Māori development.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | What you’ll bring

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive HR leadership experience (8+ years), ideally at a senior level.
  • Proven ability to lead people strategy, organisational development, and change management.
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment law and industrial relations.
  • Excellent relationship management, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving capability with a hands-on, collaborative approach.
  • A commitment to te reo me ngā tikanga Māori, and an understanding of how these enrich our workplace and mahi.
