Whakaata Māori has an exciting opportunity for a conscientious and reliable person to join our Technology and Operations team as an Operations Assistant, providing administration and support services primarily to our Media Services, Media Delivery and Platforms and Infrastructure teams.  

What you will be doing:

Whakaata Maori’s vision for our kaimahi is to have highly skilled, multi-disciplinary teams that are agile and responsive to meet the needs of our audience/s. This role is responsible for both helping departmental leaders with the administration of each ranga, but also has the option to undertake craft training in technical fields to increase the overall support across the team.  

We have a fast paced environment that requires a strong craft background as well as the ability to effectively communicate and work across different teams within our organisation, to plan and resource to meet deadlines and oversee the delivery of a high quality end product.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Experience in broadcast television, either in news production or other relevant experience
• Great administration skills, who is comfortable with multi-tasking and self prioritising tasks
• Confident in using Microsoft office suite, and is able to easily learn and manage other online resources
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A strong eye for detail
• Confidence who is happy to work as part of a team but also independently
• A tertiary qualification in broadcasting or a related field such as communications, and some knowledge of te reo Māori are preferred

Whakaata Māori plays a unique role in supporting the revitalisation of te reo me ngā tikanga Māori. Launched in 2004, as a result of the Crown recognising its responsibility to support Māori broadcasting to promote te reo me ngā tikanga Māori, Whakaata Māori plays a clear founding role in supporting national efforts in revitalisation, which today is captured in the Maihi Karauna (Crown strategy for te reo revitalisation). At the same time, Whakaata Māori plays an important role supporting community-level efforts to revitalise te reo Māori as a thriving language used by whānau, iwi, hapū and te reo speaker communities and stakeholders across the country.
