“Our realignment centres on better operational outcomes and ensuring a future focused entity,” says Shane Taurima, Tāhuhu Rangapū of Māori Television.

“Today’s announcement comes following a period of consultation with affected kaimahi on the proposed changes.”

Feedback was overwhelmingly supportive, with kaimahi acknowledging the need for Māori Television to remain responsive to viewing habits and improve its digital experience.

“The media sector as a whole is experiencing change in the way audiences consume content. This staffing realignment supports our digital-first focus: increasing efficiencies in content and strengthening the user content experience.”

In total seven roles will be disestablished and twelve roles created. The majority of the new roles will be based in the reo & tikanga and business innovation units. All roles will be maintained through existing baselines.
