“Today’s announcement marks the next phase in Māori Television’s growth,” says Shane Taurima, Tāhuhu Rangapū of Māori Television.

“The focus of this realignment centres on better operational outcomes to deliver on our Outcomes Framework and ensure a future focused entity.”

The proposed changes look to increase efficiencies in content as well as strengthen both the digital and user experience.

“We are seeing changes in the way audiences consume content: we must turn with the tide, and remain responsive to our viewers,” Mr Taurima says.

Eight roles are proposed to be disestablished and thirteen roles created, including a number of new roles in reo & tikanga and business innovation. All roles will be maintained through existing baselines.

The realignment also includes a consultation process for staff to have their say on proposals.

“Our kaimahi know this business better than anyone else, so the proposed changes will be done in consultation with affected staff,” Mr Taurima says.
