YOUTUBE STARS CREATE OWN KAPA HAKA –TE NŪTUBE – NEW SEASON

YouTube stars Atareta and Te Haakura return in season five of TE NŪTUBE HAKA in their biggest challenge yet – creating their own kapa haka bracket and performing it live.

Funded by Te Māngai Pāho, all eight episodes of TE NŪTUBE HAKA will drop on Thursday 7 December on MĀORI+

Co-producer and proud ‘Haka Mum’ Kahurangi Milne says with the girls in their tweens and into their fifth season, the series needed to evolve.

“Atareta and Te Haakura absolutely love kapa haka, so we combined their two passions; haka and Te NūTube to get TE NŪTUBE HAKA,” says Kahurangi.

“This series is a unique behind-the-scenes reality-style series, made by tamariki, for tamariki,” says Kahurangi.

“We have all watched kapa haka series that showcase our awesome rōpu pakeke. But this is an opportunity for audiences to see and appreciate the sheer hard work that goes in to preparing for kapa haka competitions, not just on the part of the tamariki, but all the Haka māmā and pāpā and wider whānau.

The girls call on haka legends Tiahuia Ropitini, Taha Tangitu-Huata and Pere Wihongi to help compose and rearrange waiata, develop choreography and make kākahu.

The rōpu in the series features a star-studded line up of tauira from Te Kura o Te Koutu (Rotorua) and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi (Tāmaki Makaurau).

“The discipline they needed to succeed in this kaupapa helped many of them prepare for Te Mana Kuratahi 2023, at which TKKM o Hoani Waititi won overall, Atareta won kaitātaki and Te Kura o Te Koutu placed fourth overall,” said Kahurangi.
