Shane Taurima is the Kaihautū (Chief Executive) of Whakaata Māori, having joined as Deputy Chief Executive in September 2018. With over 25 years' experience in media and broadcasting, he has led the transformation of Whakaata Māori (formerly known as Māori Television) to an Indigenous digital media organisation.
As Chair of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network, he has fostered relationships with other Indigenous media organisations around the world.
Prior to his current role, Shane held senior positions at Television New Zealand and managed the national Māori radio news service. He also served as a senior ministerial advisor and Chief Operating Officer for the North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency.
